The Blackhawk Chapter is always accepting new members who want to share our excitement and expand our knowledge of railroad history.

Members include industry professionals, historians, writers, photographers, railfans and those who simply enjoy trains.

When joining the Blackhawk Chapter, your membership will include:

  • The Blackhawk Chapter newsletter,
    Spike & Tie, issued six times a year.

  • Exclusive access to chapter events, including our annual Summer Picnic, open houses and tours.

You will also get full rights and privileges in the
National Railway Historical Society, including:

  • Discounts at museums and tourist railroads across North America.

  • First chance to register for the Society's annual National Convention, featuring guest speakers, fellowship, special railroad events, tours and excursions.

  • Opportunity to attend the popular RailCamp for teens or adults.

  • Access to the Society's collections of railroad photographs, films and other resources.

You will also receive a one year's subscription to the Society's publications:

  • NRHS Bulletin - Articles on historic railroads, railroad preservation, historic railroad photographs, reviews of railroad books and a look at major NRHS events.

  • NRHS News - Late-breaking news from the society and its chapters, including railroad preservation efforts and Society activities like the Convention and RailCamp.

  • NRHS Yearbook - Annual look at chapter activities from around the country.

National dues go to providing all of the services listed above. Chapter dues go toward meeting space, chapter publications, and supporting our preservation projects.

Our Dues

Dues for both the NRHS and Blackhawk for one year are $49. Additional family members can join at $8 per person.

Those who are already members of the NRHS can get an associate membership with the Blackhawk Chapter for $16.

Additional family members who are already NRHS members can also join the Blackhawk Chapter for $3 per person.

Students (under 18) can join the NRHS and Blackhawk for $32.

All memberships run for the calendar year January to December.

Make a Donation

The Blackhawk Chapter is more than happy to accept donations of:

  • railroad memorabilia

  • railroad books and magazines

  • photographs and/or films or railroad subjects.

We also accept cash donations to further the Chapter's activities. Donated material will be added to the chapter's collections or auctioned or sold to raise funds for chapter projects and activities.

Donate Your Service

From recruiting to research to restoration, the Blackhawk Chapter has many opportunities available for those wishing to donate their time and resources to one of our many events or projects. If you like to get your hands dirty and want to discover our area's fascinating railroad history, the Blackhawk Chapter wants you.
