noted electric railroad historian Norm Carlson with a look at the fascinating

members and their families, at Illinois Live Steamers. Directions to this

JULY 12 -- Noon to 5 PM The
Blackhawk Chapter visits Northwest Indiana for our first-ever Spring Railroad
Swap Meet and EJ&E Program at the Schererville American Legion Post
485, 7485 Burr Street in Schererville, Indiana. Featured
will be an EJ&E slide program by John Egan of Hoosier Hobbies and 16mm
color movies filmed of the J taken from a hi-rail truck in
the summer of 1972 between Matteson, Illinois and Kirk Yard in Gary. This Blackhawk
Chapter event is open to the public with FREE parking and admission. Vendor
tables for the swap meet are $10.00 each. For

Chapter, along with our computerized Train Simulator, will be at the Southland
Railroad Show at H.L. Richards High School, 106th Street and Central
Avenue, Oak Lawn, Illinois. Admission: $6, seniors $5, under 12 free. |

We
are always looking for quality programs from railfans, railroad professionals,
advocates, scholars and historians. We can supply a large screen, projection equipment
(slides, 16mm movies, video or computer) and an appreciative and enthusiastic
audience. If

hold regular meetings at 7:30 PM on the first Friday of the month (except
July and August), at the Gladys Fox Museum on the southwest corner of 9th
Street (Illinois Route 7) and Washington Street in the historic downtown district
of Lockport, Illinois. Click here for maps to our

open at 7:00 PM and there is plenty of free parking on Washington Street.
If there is no wake scheduled, additional parking is available in the lot of the
adjacent Goodale Memorial Chapel, in the 900 block of Hamilton Street. Admission
to all meetings is FREE and guests are always welcome. Attendees are invited
to participate in our monthly raffle of rare and interesting railroad memorabilia
and models. Refreshments are available. Meetings
include a presentation on railroads by noted railfans, authors, historians, railroad
professionals and/or railroad advocates. Recent programs have included: - DePaul
University transportation professor Joel Schweiterman discussing his two-volume
book When The Railroad Leaves Town.

look at contemporary railroading in Illinois by nationally published photographer
Paul Burgess.
- Area
historian Roy Jackson's program on the history and rebuilding of Joliet
Union Station.
- Rick
Harnish of the Midwest High Speed Rail Association speaking about recent and
proposed improvements to Chicago-St. Louis Amtrak service.
- Presentations
by industry expert Mike Blaszak about early Amtrak's “Rainbow Era” and
railroading in New Orleans before and after Hurricane Katrina.
- Transit
historian Steve Hyett's program on the development, heyday and sudden end
of the classic interurban, the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin.
- Rare
and unusual 16mm films taken in the 70s by the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern
of their entire right of way as preserved in the Blackhawk Chapter archives.
